On July 10, 2023, Josh dropped by my home and offered a free roof inspection. I hadn't had my roof repaired since I bought my home in 2017. And after a few heavy hailstorms that had come in recently, I figured this was as good a time as any to get an inspection. So, I had Josh come by the next morning to do his thing. To no surprise, there was hail damage to various sections of the roof, both garage doors, a window screen and glazing bead, as well as the rain gutters. Now, too be honest, I had not initially planned to go with Josh. Earlier this year, another roofer had made quite the impression on me. So, much so, I left him a glowing review. But for whatever reason, I decided to look for reviews on 777 Roofing. On Google Reviews, I discovered over 190 reviews with 5-star ratings, consistently over a span of 4 years, but 1 as far back as 9 years. That's pretty darn impressive. I then researched the roofer that I'd initially planned to hire. Nothing less than 5-star ratings, as well, but with only a review count in the mid-20s. The comparison in experience presented a gap too wide to bridge. I had to choose a side. I'm sure you know who I chose. I contacted my insurance and filed a claim. Josh was familiar with my assigned adjuster. They both worked together in harmony and Josh ensured that my claim was approved. Subsequently, Josh sat down with me to go over the type of roof I wanted - shingles, color, longevity, yada, yada, yada. You know how it goes. He also walked me through the process of what to expect from start to finish when the job began, and then put me on the schedule. On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, early morning, the job began. It went just as Josh said it would. There was a lot of noise, hammering, banging, ripping, and trashing, as to be expected, but I wasn't much bothered by that. The only inconvenience was that the wife and I had to park our cars out on the street while the dumpster and roofing material occupied the driveway. But on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, before 10:00am, the job was completed, which was so fast, it had not even set in that I'd been inconvenienced. Next thing I knew, Josh was already outside with his magnetic pickup tool making sure no nails were left behind. We wouldn't want to puncture our tires, or feet for that matter. Beforehand, Josh said after he performed a cleanup, I shouldn't find more than 2 or 3 nails left behind. I found only 2, one in the driveway and the other in the garden bed. All I can say, is my hat's off to Josh for a job well done. If memory serves, I believe Josh told me he'd earned a degree in criminal justice, but his interest shifted to roofing. I have no doubt that with his communicative skills, eye for detail and work ethic, he'd be an asset in any field he chose to work. And if that's not enough, the owner of 777 Roofing, Larry Andrews, and his consultant, Mike Coday, dropped by later in the day to make sure all my needs had been met. I had received a few estimates for a planned kitchen remodel in the last year, but had yet to meet one that heard and understood my vision much less one that offered services at a reasonable price point. I contacted Charles to set up a consultation, and he was available within 48 hours and showed up on time. We reviewed my pinterest board and Charles was honest about what could and could not be done with the limits of my budget - and that open communication I immediately appreciated. Within another 48 hours I had an itemized estimate in my email that we ended up reviewing even further together. It should be said that I work with out of state homeowners and contractors in my line of work, and I can say for certain that there are far more mediocre/poor contractors than there are good ones (unfortunately). For every homeowner that has had an honest and competent contractors that work with integrity, there are probably 3 or 4 that have been left with disappointment and extreme difficulty in getting problems resolved promptly. I can also say pretty confidently that large projects very rarely go exactly as planned without a single hitch. So I walked into this remodel a bit nervous. Charles was great in pointing me in the right direction to pick out my colors, my materials, my accents - and was constantly making on-point recommendations. I had a bit of a stall out with our backsplash, and he did his research and texted me photos trying to get me out of the rut and find a solution that fit our aesthetic - for the record, his ideas were better than anything that I was coming up with on my own. We took the kitchen almost down to the studs - all new everything. And the space is a traditional gully kitchen, pretty small, with minimal floor space to work with. I explained that we cook every meal from home and I really needed more room to be able to do that. We also entertain very often and I dreamed of being able to have more than 2 people in the space at a time, comfortably. We worked on the specifics for the cabinets and countertops (the two most important things to me) a TON prior to pulling the trigger, and Charles was great at trouble shooting different ideas for the most efficient use of the space. All of the workers I encountered were super pleasant - Miguel is a SAINT. Again, I've worked with literally hundreds of out of state contractors and home owners in my career - and the nightmare is not necessarily that something goes awry, the nightmare is that you get stuck with a contractor that doesn't want to fix it. And I had the complete opposite experience with Kaphar. And that is the thing that confirms that Kaphar is a wonderful company, the way they respond when things don't go perfectly... a smudge in paint, a tile that looks a little wonky... this is all the normal stuff that will almost always happen when human hands are involved, especially when you're working in a small and old space. Anytime I had a concern and something wasn't to my liking, Charles and the Kaphar staff not only made it right quickly, but made it right with a smile - a dream! I was so thrilled with our kitchen - I had them do some drywall work at one of my rental properties - a few weeks later we remodeled our mudroom/laundry room with them - a few weeks after that I had them install a new front door. We also have tentative plans with Charles to install a large customized bookcase wall in the dining room as well (small homes need smart storage solutions and Charles is great at that!) I have gotten so many compliments on our kitchen - comfortable but modern, clean but lived in - exactly what we worked so hard to achieve. People simply cannot believe it's the same kitchen. I have referred Kaphar to friends and family members and will continue to do so. The value (meaning, the quality and price point) cannot be beat - I am so grateful (and honestly, relieved!) to have found a reliable contractor in my home state...“ Show more

Soon after a recent May hailstorm damaged my own roof, I was visited by Project Manager Daniel Rodriguez of Thunder City Roofing & Construction. Normally, I am leery of anyone door knocking regarding repair work, but Daniel and I had a great and casual conversation about the ins and outs of the roofing business on my front porch. I listen to my gut when reading people and decided to entrust Daniel with our roof replacement and the ensuing back and forth with the insurance company. From the beginning of the process, it has been as trouble-free as I could hope for. Daniel met with my insurance adjuster at the initial inspection of my property and impressed me with his good-natured interaction and overall demeanor. He asked all the right questions of my adjuster and was not at all confrontational in their conversation. As an adjuster myself, this is the kind of collaboration that is becoming more and more rare to see, so I appreciated that detail. Soon after meeting with Daniel, I was contacted by Thunder City Roofing owner Brant Holloway and learned more about the “other” side of the adjustment process. My wife and I were told exactly where our claim was in the negotiation process, and I regularly received updates from both Brant and Daniel. Thunder City Roofing was able to bring my roof decking completely up to code using my policy coverage; a feat that has become more and more of a challenge in recent years. My home was built in 1968, and the roof decking was 1x8 planks with numerous rotted/broken planks and large gaps between them. In the end, our entire roof surface was overlaid with OSB to ensure a quality nailing surface for our new roof. Doing the job right was of paramount importance to everyone at Thunder City Roofing. The roof crew with Thunder City Roofing was nothing short of excellent and impressive. The crew arrived at my home at 630am, and, after a complete tear-off, a full re-deck, and complete roof replacement of my fairly large roof, were doing final clean-up by 1230pm. Oh, and did I mention that they also re-roofed my 28x30 shop in that time? Simply unbelievable. The cleanup was extremely thorough, and the crew left nothing for us to worry about. They even moved our plants and returned them to their places upon leaving. Small details like that really set Thunder City Roofing apart from the status quo. Daniel remained on site for the duration of the installation and worked closely with his crew members. The level of workmanship and pride by all crew members was simply top-notch. No one had to be micromanaged or reminded of details; they simply were a well-oiled machine in top form for the entire process. In closing, I simply cannot say enough positive things about Project Manager Daniel Rodriguez, Owner Brant Holloway, and the talented crew at Thunder City Roofing. I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them to others. Our new roof is absolutely beautiful, and I cannot believe the difference that it makes in that much coveted pursuit of “curb appeal.” Thank you so much for all of your hard work!
