Nate Ulman sent me a temp crew, not the professional one that everyone else here raves about. Why did I get the Clown Crew that caused such widespread damage and left nails and debris everywhere? Were they even insured? One was still working on my roof until well past sundown. Thanks for the liability, Nate!
1. On day one I could hardly leave the house to walk my dog because of all the tools and debris strewn about the front yard and the driveway being blocked for a day and a half by a dumpster.
2. There was a crew member working on the roof until well past dusk. Without their sweep-up of nails and debris, I had to clean it up first thing the next morning so that my dog could be let out without injury.
3. Most people getting a new roof report the job being done in a day. This crew took a day and a half on my tiny 800 square ft. house. After I sent an email about a missing piece of my gutter spout, someone came by unannounced, parked in my driveway in front of my car, replaced the gutter incorrectly, and then washed tar-like hatch marks off of my siding in the back. This left a pale swirling scrubbed-off pattern on my paint. Other dark hatch marks were left alone. I don't know which looks worse.
4. The piece of gutter spout that was reattached doesn't redirect all of the water properly. Some leaks down my siding.
5. A large corner chunk of my back porch stair post was broken off from falling roof debris and thrown away so that I have no way to repair it. Slats of my vintage jalousie window were permanently scratched. The crew also damaged a screen and marked up some windows. Why? Because they used no protective tarps, except for a flimsy fabric one that only covered my front living room window.
6. There were nails left everywhere! I thought I'd finally found them all until I started doing fall clean-up. My rake and leaf blower revealed many more nails, one of which lodged into the sole of my shoe. Another punctured my tire. I continued to find more nails and roof debris (plus cigarette butts) half a year after the job was done.
Nate refuses to answer my complaint to the BBB, even though their dispute resolution supervisor tells me Ulman Family Contracting will lose accreditation status if the matter isn’t resolved. He didn’t register a warranty for my shingles at the time I contacted the manufacturer. He won’t answer the BBB about damages, nor about an extended warranty that protects me against poor installation done by a sloppy and unprofessional crew. He hasn’t even given me a final invoice/receipt, despite me reaching out to him many times. He has ghosted me, which is really shady.
At least an honest businessman would attempt to make things right. Maybe it was that I’m a middle age woman living alone, or because I have a chronic disease that makes me look really out of it sometimes, or because I live in a working class neighborhood. Like he thought I was some moron who couldn’t tell an honest business from bad dealings.
It has been months since I reported him to the BBB, and they still can't get him to respond to my official complaint. I don't understand why they aren't holding him accountable, or why he can't even give me a simple invoice. I'm updating this review to add a photo of the pic his company provides on Facebook. It's further proof that the only path of egress from my house was blocked by large work equipment and roof debris, and that there weren't any protective tarps used to prevent asphalt shingle damage...
