Stephen Stewart-Hill says: āWhat started as a couple of leaks we wanted repaired turned out to be a major roof replacement. Our house has had the original roof from when the house was built in 1989, 35 years ago. In 2008, 16 years ago, to stop leaks, we had a second layer installed by a friend ā big mistake. Yes, the second layer helped stop some of the leaks, but because it was not installed by professional roofers, we actually were setting the seed for additional roof damage.
I selected CPG General Services because of the Better Business Bureau rating of 5 stars. We spoke directly with Chris, the business owner of the company, regarding the condition of the roof, what was needed, and recommendations. Chris convinced us that it would be a waste of money to fix the roof where there were leaks in the house. He showed us options in tiles and their merits.
After our 04.18.2024 meeting, we decided to go with CPG. We selected an upgraded version, GAF UHDZ, under his advisement for its superiority under heavy winds and warrantee. Chris immediately had his crew put tarps all over our roof to protect the interior of the house where there were leaks. Gabby, the CPG office manager, was quick to apply for a building permit by 04.22.2024. The permit was approved by the town of New Paltz on 05.07.2024.
Work started on 05.20.2024. Discovered was facia damage in the rear of the house along with additional flashing work for the skylights. A change order was reviewed and approved. As work progressed, soffit replacement, additional sheets of plywood required. Another change order was reviewed and approved. Work continued, additional plywood sheets and flat roof enhanced replacement over garage was required. Another change order was reviewed and approved. During the roof work, I discovered the wrong colour roof tile was being used. I spoke to Chris about it. The colour being used was fine, but it was not the one we contracted.
The crew worked diligently. When additional work was required to be addressed, the crew was quick to send photographs to Chris, who in turn sent them to me with an explanation of required work uncovered during the process of preparing the roof to be tiled.
Once work started, the crew worked nonstop, weather permitting, in completing the additional work required and the original roof tile replacement. During the work, Gabby and Chris were responsive to change orders and any questions we may have regarding the additional costs, work, and schedule. In summary, you get what you pay for. We received superior workmanship and materials, and we paid dearly for it. Our plans are to have CPG do some construction work next Spring, leveling the media room addition to the house and shore up an earthworks wall inside the lower patio.
