I had a 2-ton 14 seer American Standard unit installed during the first few months of 2020 (limited supply and availability, so it was the only choice). Constant problems with the defrost control board and refrigerant leaks set me out a lot of $ as soon as the 2 year labor warranty expires
Signature Heating and Air installed the unit and then went out of business this Feb. Sure enough, the first time I try to use the A/C, I get fault codes because the refrigerant is nearly gone.
I call Quantum at 8:45 that night, Dom answers the call and he's at the house first thing in the morning. He tops me off enough for functionality (doesn't charge me anymore than necessary), and explains the process he needs to go through to inspect the unit for leaks. I got more details on pressures, vacuums, leak rates and how they change as the system operates than any repairman has ever shared with me.
He finds the leak in the coil of the outdoor unit and contacted the dealer (which is not a brand he installs) for a warranty replacement part - lead time 2 weeks. He offered me the mobile unit from his own office temporarily. A very fine gesture, but I borrowed one from a neighbor. A little over a week goes by and he hasn't gotten an update or response from the dealer and notified me that things may not be on schedule.
After contacting the dealer, I'm informed the part is obsolete and has to be ordered from the factory - now a 3 week lead time. Daily calls, by myself and Dom, to the dealer, for escalation and expediting go unanswered.
In the meantime Dom has prepared a quote for a replacement unit, with different options for thermostat, capacity, and efficient (he covered all the bases).
At the one month mark of hot, humid bedrooms, I determined that a warranty is useless if the company backing it won't honor it's commitment.
I contacted Dom at 8 in the evening, he answered the call, as always, and was at the house by 8 AM.
It's just after lunch the following day and I have a new, more efficient, indoor and outdoor unit.
