I gave them a call and spoke with Jennifer whose customer service over the phone was absolutely top notch. She listened to my summary of the situation and within 30 minutes, she had Jose at my door to give my system a once-over and offer recommendations and an estimate. Just like Jennifer, Jose's level of customer service was second to none and he was extremely friendly and willing to walk me through the detail of his suggestions including rationale. The price quoted was almost the same as the \"out of pocket\" portion that my home warranty wanted me to pay as a supplement to the coverage they were providing. In addition, Air Masters was offering to install a Trane unit rather than an \"off brand\" that the home warranty was planning to install. I was so impressed by Air Masters that I decided to not use my home warranty to address the issue. Air Masters came back the very next day and installed the new Trane evaporator coil, and my house has never felt more comfortable! In addition, Air Masters installed some manual dampers (at a very reasonable price) and solved a long-standing problem where our downstairs master bedroom was constantly not as cool as the rest of our house during the hot summer. I cannot recommend Air Masters strongly enough and will most certainly use them for all HVAC needs moving forward. Thankfully some quick web searches revealed another local company that had plenty of plaudits: Air Comfort Solution. It was 2am by this point so I left a message.\n\nBut by 8:45am that morning Bryan Patton of ACS called back and asked if I still needed service. HECK YES, I did! And was I ever surprised by the quality and attention of Mr Patton. He arrived to check out and diagnose the problem in my 10 year old Trane outdoor condenser unit, finding issues with the capacitors and the fan. However, the Trane used a sophisticated DC communication system that he wasn't certified to fix, and advised I find an expert. He even waived the \"trip fee\", saying that he couldn't look himself in the mirror knowing he accepted money and without fixing the problem.\n\nThat struck me: it's rare to see that level of personal honor and dedication.\n\nThat's when I immediately asked him for an estimate to just replace the entire unit. The price was reasonable and he suggested that he and his team could even have it replaced THE SAME DAY. Now at this point I thought lack of sleep had caused me to hallucinate but he repeated it and IT HAPPENED.\n\nEven despite numerous flash-flood-causing storms, they worked in between squalls to remove the old Trane and install a new American Standard outdoor unit. The old error-prone DC communication was gone, the system turned on, and after a few fits and starts, beautiful crisp, cool air began pumping out the registers.\n\nI was almost tempted to put on a parka!\n\nAll the while, Bryan Patton's honor was backed by an efficient work ethic, dedication to getting the job done, and a friendly demeanor. He didn't pull punches about bad news but was realistic and optimistic as needed. And his price seemed beyond fair.\n\nI fully expected multiple miserable nights of sweltering heat following the system failure. But thanks to Air Comfort Solutions, I had exactly zero! Bryan sent Jeff to look and was able to get a new set of contacts installed the very same day. He left the old contacts for me to see and yikes those ants sure are awful! Anyway, so happy that things are back to normal and so quickly too. Really appreciate his willingness to answer general questions, too!\n\nInstall went well, and they reset the line and insulated it outside like it should be (old one hadn't been insulated all the way down, and the 2nd line wasn't next to the other, but that may not have yet been code). The internal unit was larger than its predecessor and they had to remove the door and wooden frame to get it in, which they put back together. Not 100% like it was, but the door still closed, and that's more than I'd be able to accomplish in less time spent, so no complaints here. Appreciate the effort msde there. It will require some caulking and touch-up painting to help restore the nicer look.\n\nNew unit is very quiet compared to the old one, which was naturally going to be noisy as the fan engine and bearings were dying (it was also having some other problems and was 11+ years old). The new one barely runs to put the temperature at the same place as the old one, and I feel like it both dehumidifies and cools quickly for very little effort on its part (this is the high-end unit, and we were coming from a basic). Really like it already.\n\nOverall, I'm very happy. New systems are expensive. Jose was very respectful of our home and very honest about the issue -- we had popped the compressor capacitor.\n\nInstead of recommending a costly replacement or just replacing the capacitor (which was likely to fail again, now that it's failed once), he recommended their electrical rebuild kit, which also replaces the electrical contact / control module, and includes a hard start kit (a secondary capacitor to lighten the initial electrical load). This was the ideal solution!\n\nTheir services are already VERY competitive and affordable (diagnostic fee was quoted at just $89, and waived with a repair purchase), but they also offer an annual membership program that includes TWO A/C system maintenance visits per year -- to keep the system running at peak efficiency with maximum life -- along with exclusive discounts for any repairs that do come up. The membership is normally $189 the first year and $165 per year after, but bundling it with the compressor electrical rebuild kit increased the total just $30, making it a really great deal!\n\nJose and Harris Air Services had us cooling again in about an hour after arrival, and even went above and beyond to check the whole system, top to bottom, and clean the compressor. What Happened

Lisa did everything right when she needed to replace her roof after a windstorm. She searched for vetted contractors on Directorii and other review sites. She met with three different companies to get estimates. The contractor she picked checked all the boxes: they used quality materials, showed expertise in their presentation, were willing to work with her insurance adjuster, and– they were covered under Directorii’s $20,000 guarantee.

After a couple months of back and forth with Lisa’s insurance company, the job moved forward. She was a little concerned to see that the owner was not on site the entire time like he’d promised, but brushed it off. After the work was finished, the contractor informed Lisa they had decided not to install plywood sheathing as planned, even though it was covered by her insurance. Again, she brushed it off. But a few weeks later, the gutters clogged.

Lisa’s husband used a ladder to look at the roof for the first time since it had been replaced, and found a disaster. The gutters were filled with nails, shingles and other debris. When they walked on the roof, they could feel soft spots where the home’s original barnwood planks were rotting, causing wavy and dipped slopes. The shingles were not aligned straight, and several of them were curling up with nails poking through. There were gaps in the roof and underlayment, exposing wood beneath. The drip edge was not secured to the house in several areas–to the point that the entire sections of roof could be lifted from the house. And there were a few sections where no repairs had been made at all, or left unfinished.

Lisa was horrified and sent photos to her contractor, who agreed to come out and personally finish the incomplete sections. He did visit once, but was unable to finish and told her he would come back. Then, he stopped responding. After several weeks, and speaking with an attorney, Lisa hired another contractor to come out and access the damage. What they found was even worse than she’d thought. Not only had the first contractor used the wrong brand of shingles–the roof would have to be completely torn off, plywood sheathing installed and re-roofed. It was at this point that Lisa made a call to Directorii.

The Directorii team assessed the damage she had documented, and reached out to her contractor. He eventually conceded that he needed to make things right. However, Lisa was no longer comfortable with him working on her home. Instead, Directorii connected Lisa with a new contractor and refunded the cost of the replacement– which totalled over $8,000.
